A hole in one

Dating can be difficult. It’s hard to find like-minded people to spend time with.

So a Canadian company have come up with a solution – combining a hobby and dating site.

For all you lonely golfers out there is the place for you!

Whilst dating agencies and websites have traditionally asked people to describe themselves and those they’d like to meet, newspapers are now talking about a new range of services that cater to those with specific interests or needs.

Apparently there was a gap in the market for a golfing and dating site – until now.

Evidence suggests having a shared interest can be a firm foundation for a relationship, since it gives the couple something in common as well as something to do together.

However, not all social scientists are convinced that separating out personality traits, characteristics and interests is always the best way to meet a partner – particularly online. Apart from people being dishonest or perhaps enhancing their profile, there’s also a problem of understanding. For example an active runner or an occasional gym visitor could consider themselves as ‘sporty’. So you could end up with a couch potato when you wanted a competitor.

Focusing in on specific traits can also mean people may go for what they see is ‘similar’, but may not guarantee a connection. Some experts advocate avoiding trying to find someone who seems the same as you, and to try and meet as wide a range of people as possible.

Perhaps a hobby focused site gets around some of these problems. Although you’re meeting based on one key issue, it still gives you space to meet a wide range of people with lots of different interests.

And you’ll always have something to talk about.
